Eidi Health Raises $6.28 Million in Series A Round with Strong Backing from Prominent Investors to Advance AI-Powered Clinical Administration Solutions for GPs

GP-focused edtech Heidi Health has raised $10 million in a Series A.

The round was once again led by Blackbird Ventures, with support from Hostplus, Hesta, Wormhole Capital, Archangel Ventures, Possible Ventures and Saniel Ventures. Heidi (rebranded from Oscar) previous raised $5 million in a Seed round led by Blackbird. The software platform enlists artificial intelligence (AI) to cut clinical administration for GPs.

The funding will also be used to expand its team of doctors, designers, and engineers, product development in the wake of launching a new standalone AI product, Second, growth clinic and GP customer base and later, global expansion. Currently around 30 clinics and more than 100 GPs are using Heidi.

The automated consulting interface reduces a GP’s administrative workloads and the instances of missed or late diagnosis. It can be used as an off-the-shelf platform or as white-labelled solution at an enterprise level. Second enables clinicians to automate time-consuming administrative tasks such as gathering histories, building ward round lists, performing clinical audits, writing clinical notes, creating documents, optimising discharge summaries for billings and processing referrals.

Dr Thomas Kelly, a vascular surgery registrar, founded Heidi as Oscar in 2021 with former Goldman Sachs analyst Waleed Mussa and former Coles data scientist Yu Liu. Dr Kelly said people are living longer with more chronic conditions.

While medicine has become increasingly specialised, junior doctors aren’t choosing to become GPs. This has created a crippling burden on our GPs, limiting their ability to provide the service and care that Australians expect and deserve, she experienced this working in rural GP settings and in public hospital outpatient clinics. You’re overrun with patients and there are never enough hours in the day. My time as a doctor was so often wasted doing paper referrals, waiting on hold or filling in copious amounts of documentation to satisfy the government’s requirements for some piece of Medicare funding.

Blackbird Ventures general partner Michael Tolo said they continue to support Heidi in its mission to build a sustainable healthcare system. We desperately need a safe path to scale the most scarce resource in our healthcare system — clinicians, he said.

Heidi’s AI allows clinicians to spend less time on administrative tasks, and more time on what matters most: to foster enduring relationships with their patients and invest in preventative care.
