Key highlights - 

The company has designed and developed a handheld multispectral imaging camera known as OralScan for screening and early detection of oral cancers and biopsy guidance. The device provides real time feedback to the user on the tissue status at the point of care using a cloud-based ML algorithm. Sascan is ISO13485: 2016 certified and OralScan is CE marked.  The product was released into the market in Oct 2020 and is being used in various cancer hospitals such as RCC Trivandum, HCG Bangalore, RST Cancer Hospital Nagpur, and Dental Colleges such as Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences Kothamangalam and KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences Belgaum and NGOs such as India Relief Foundation Mumbai and Ekhoum Foundation New Delhi.

Another product for cervical cancer screening and biopsy guidance named “CerviScan” has been developed based on the same platform technology and Phase-1 clinical studies have been completed in 109 patients. A novel product for treatment of early stage oral and cervical cancers using photodynamic therapy has been developed and clinical trials would begin soon. The company has raised seed funding of 2.5 Cr and has received grants to the tune of 1 Cr since inception and generated a revenue of 1.1 Cr during FY2021-22.

We also undertake contract R&D jobs for third parties to develop medical devices based on Biophotonics Technology.

Founder Speaks- 

I am scientist with more than 35 years of experience in Biophotonics, optical engineering, remote sensing and medical instrumentation. My basic degree is in Physics and PhD is in Lasers. The company was founded with a mission to develop affordable devices based on Biophotonics and allied technologies to manage cancers more efficiently and create a social impact. I have mentored many PG and PhD students in Biophotonics and have been conferred the Novartis Oration Award 2010 for cancer research by the ICMR, Govt of India.

Sascan has won the BIG Grant of BIRAC, Govt of Indian in 2015, the Elevate100 grant of Karnataka Govt in 2017, the Villgro I-Pitch contest in 2018 and was a runnerup of the ASME I-Show contest 2018. The company has won the NBEC 2020 Win Foundation award, The Anjani Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award 2021, The National Startup India award 2021 and the Pharma and Medical Devices Startup India Grand Challenge 2021.
